The iconic MMORPG Ragnarok Online is getting a fresh Web3 makeover with the debut of Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis. The game is set to launch in the first quarter of 2025 on Sky Mavis’ Ronin Network, promising a new era for the classic franchise.
A Fresh Take on a Legendary Game
Originally a massive hit during the MMORPG boom of the 2000s, Ragnarok Online has amassed over 100 million players worldwide and generated over $2 billion in revenue. The Web3 adaptation comes through a collaboration between Sky Mavis and blockchain gaming platform Zentry, which introduced Ragnarok Landverse in September 2023.
While the original Landverse attracted over 400,000 players and $18.9 million in revenue, Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis is positioned as a standalone experience. Existing Landverse assets won’t be compatible with the new version, though Ronin has announced plans to migrate current servers to the network later.
Ragnarok Expanding the Web3 Gaming Ecosystem
Zentry is taking significant steps to integrate with Ronin’s ecosystem. The company will serve as a node validator, bridge its ZENT token to Ronin, and introduce incentivized liquidity pools on the Katana decentralized exchange.
Additionally, Zentry launched its Nexus Player Portal in December, offering features like universal digital identity and cross-platform rewards to onboard the Ronin community.
Zentry CEO Jarindr Thitadilaka emphasized the company’s vision: “Together, we’re paving the way for future gaming IPs to transition into Web3. We are fully committed to making our vision of onboarding 50 million global users to Web3 gaming a reality.
”Ronin, known for its scalability and role in powering the popular Axie Infinity, handles over three million daily transactions and supports nearly five million monthly users. With Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis on the horizon, the network is poised to strengthen its position as a leader in Web3 gaming.
