GameStop<\/a> has recently unveiled its corporate investment policy, incorporating Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, the company informed its shareholders on March 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The firm\u2019s board of directors approved this decision with an overwhelming majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has not yet disclosed the size or timing of any initial allocation but confirmed that Bitcoin <\/a>will now be a crucial part of its treasury strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this announcement, the firm\u2019s shares rallied 11%. However, the impact on Bitcoin was minimal, as it appreciated only 0.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, in its fourth-quarter earnings report, GameStop revealed that its digital asset strategy extends to stablecoins. The report also highlighted that the company holds more than $4.5 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decision aligns with the growing trend of publicly traded companies incorporating Bitcoin into their balance sheets as a long-term asset, collectively holding around 655,000 Bitcoin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GameStop\u2019s Bold Dance with Bitcoin<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GameStop\u2019s inclination toward Bitcoin follows a series of developments hinting at its growing interest in digital assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early February, Chairman and CEO Ryan Cohen shared a photo with Michael Saylor, co-founder of MicroStrategy, at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after, Matt Cole, CEO of Strive Asset Management, wrote an open letter urging GameStop to invest a faction of its cash reserves into Bitcoin. He argued that adopting a Bitcoin-focused treasury strategy could differentiate the company in the gaming and retail industries, calling it a \u201cgame-changing opportunity to reshape its financial future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cohen later acknowledged the letter with a brief \u201cletter received\u201d post on X. Nevertheless, GameStop maintained a cautious approach until it officially announced its Bitcoin strategy\u2014aligning itself with major players like MicroStrategy, Tesla, and Block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
